In a dramatic turn today (Feb 28, 2026), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated there are “many signs” and “growing indications” that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is “no longer with us” or “gone” following heavy joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Tehran.

• Multiple Israeli sources (including senior officials speaking to Reuters, CNN, Axios, Jerusalem Post, and others) now claim Khamenei was killed in strikes that obliterated his compound. Some reports even say his body has been found and confirmed dead.
• Netanyahu called it the destruction of the “tyrant Khamenei’s compound” and urged Iranians to rise against the regime, saying the strikes also eliminated senior IRGC commanders and nuclear figures.
• US involvement confirmed, with President Trump acknowledging the operation and calling for the IRGC to stand down.

On the other side:
• Iranian officials (Foreign Ministry spokespeople and others) insist Khamenei is “safe and sound” or “alive as far as we know,” dismissing it as psychological warfare or unconfirmed rumors.
• No official Iranian confirmation of death yet, and satellite images show massive damage but no final proof released publicly.

This is a fast-moving crisis with Iran firing missiles in retaliation at Israel and US bases in the region. Casualties reported in the hundreds so far.

The Middle East just got a lot more volatile—what do you think happens next?
